Literacy is more than just reading, writing and numeracy. Literacy is the ability to access, understand and use print information. Literacy helps people reach their goals, develop their potential, and take part in society.

Workshops

For more information or to book a workshop, please contact our Literacy Outreach Coordinator:  hello@readsurreywhiterock.com

This 2-hour online workshop covers how to plan, write, edit, and design documents using clear language and design principles. Through presentation, discussion, and hands-on practice, learn how to use simple language to reach a wider audience.

Past attendees have enjoyed the exercises and helpful tips:

The workshop is very helpful and informative. I can use what I learned in my daily work.

Thanks for the course! I’m excited to get to revise our marketing materials and website information.

From what I learned today, I can write more precise, straight to the point documents with better arrangements in the layout.

In partnership with Surrey Libraries and Surrey Schools, READ offers a free 12-hour workshop that teaches frontline literacy workers how to incorporate family literacy into their work.

Our Read with Kids  presentation is a free workshop for parents/caregivers on how to encourage reading with children. Books and resources are given to each adult and child.

This program is offered to organizations and community groups rather than individual families. We will come to your location and present to your families.

We gratefully acknowledge the financial support of Decoda Literacy, the Government of BC, and the Postmedia Raise-a-Reader campaign.
